Karamoja Kampala Hope Centre

Racheal Achom, Coordinator Karamoja-Kampala Program

The ECM Karamoja Kampala Hope Centre was started in 2010 with 10 children under the child sponsorship program. and currently has 27 children under the program.

ECM Karamoja Kampala Program works with the street, needy children and the women based mainly in Kisenyi and Katwe communities.

One of our core programs is child sponsorship; we recruit Karamojong street children, rehabilitate and take them to boarding schools. The Hope Centre takes care of all the basic needs of the children including clothing, scholastic materials, school fees and school requirements among numerous other benefits.

Other key activities include evangelism and counseling through Saturday clubs, which we conduct at schools where the children study. In our Saturday club sessions, we conduct bible studies, offer guidance and counseling to the children in terms of moral behaviors, hygiene and sanitation among others.

Through Women’s club project, we engage women in the slum areas of Katwe and Kisenyi communities, both located in Kampala.  We teach them the Bible, counseling and guidance. We also carry out community sensitization on different aspects like child abuse, hygiene and sanitation, Child and human trafficking and parenting, among others.

In addition, we undertake community rescue work to karamojong children through provision of first aid and support in access of health care at hospitals and other health centers.

We also participate in the celebrations of the International day of the Street Children every year where the children get to meet and interact with other children from different backgrounds.

We also engage in meetings and workshops with other stake holders when we are invited, in order to share and get more different ideas on how to run the projects and how to deal with children.
